Timber Sale Preparation
The Plumas National Forest (Mt. Hough Ranger District, duty station) is advertising one internship opportunity in the Timber Sale Preparation / Administration Program (May 31 – August 19, 2016). Student interns will receive resource management training and hands-on experience in both field and office settings while supporting timber sale / stewardship / administration contract efforts on the Mr. Hough Ranger District (e.g., interns will be trained and responsible for conducting vegetation inventories, timber cruising, timber marking, project layout and implementation, and harvest inspection). Prior forestry fieldwork experience is preferred but not required (e.g., experience mapping vegetation/ harvest units with GPS / GIS, stand exams, etc.). This work will require physical exertion and often will be performed in a forest environment (e.g., interns will be expected t lift heavy equipment at times, stand for long periods, walk over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces, with recurring bending, stooping, and reaching). This is a full-time (40 hours per week paid internship working with post-fire restoration crews on the Plumas National Forest. Student interns will be employed by the Foundation for California Community Colleges during this internship opportunity on the national forest ($11.00 per hour). A valid driver license and clean driving record are required for this internship opportunity.
